BLISS BLAKENY, NORFOLK
This project was located on the North Norfolk coastline, and the property, Bliss Blakeney, is a very striking piece of contemporary architecture.
There are wide views out over the salt marshes and local harbours to greet you upon arrival!
The primary objective was to work with bespoke cabinet maker and kitchen installer, Simon Thomas Pirie. His furniture pieces and interior spaces in the property were unique and full of detail - he required a considered eye to help him document how he brought the clients brief to fruition.
With a laminated timber construction on the outside, and nestled neatly into its environment this house was a celebration of ideas and design internally; the main space to capture was the kitchen, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Materials of copper inlaid into the island were complimented by Simons beautiful dark charcoal grey figured sycamore and fumed solid oak - quite technically challenging to shoot!
We worked around the island, making images in daylight and at dusk, to generate a series of images that reflected not only the materials but the overall industrial aesthetic and working environment. The reflections in the stainless steel and copper weren’t diffused or constrained on this project, rather, we let them go a bit, to give a truer copy of the potn source specular highlights that appear in these unforgiving surfaces.
The tonality of the wood was tricky also. At first appearing dark and lifeless but when studies close up reveals grain, character and subtle blue hues.
Overall the interior environment was a brilliant blend of the clients love of contemporary art and eclectic styling, and Simon’s ability to combine beautiful cabinetry with function work space.
